Thanks, Moe. I was disappointed at the time that the only capture was this one (on the grill) before it flew away. After I got home, I was happy with it.

Howard, I was far from the bird and grill (the cropped image you see here is half of what I captured at 400mm) and used an aperture of 5.6. The background blur is what I like best about this image.

Beautiful photographs from Garden of the Gods! The colors you’ve gotten with the rocks and the sky are wonderful! (as with the grasses behind the bird!)

Flickers are truly my favorite bird. Probably decided that insects taste a little better with some charcoal added to them.

Wren, thanks for commenting. Yours is my first comment since importing conworld to wordpress.
The photo of the twins from that angle was the last image I captured from that trail. I was in a part of the park where there aren’t as many formations, so wanted to get something more out of the location. Looks like I should have ignored the peak from the beginning, eh?

Wow – even without a view of Pike’s Peak, I like the top photo. Very elemental and resonant with a prehistoric past.

I’ve been debating a move to wordpress, also, but hadn’t come up (yet) with anything I couldn’t do in blogger. And I hate to move again unless there’s strong reason. I’ll be interested to hear your assessment once you’ve settled in.

Wren, the name of the park is reported to have come from a conversation between two men in the 1800’s: 1st man, “It would be a good place for a beer garden.” 2nd man, ” A beer garden! No, it’s like a garden of the gods!” (Or something like that)

Chris, Murphy’s Law is why a few days in one locations is rarely enough!
