About

Photographing the natural world around me is my passion.

I love to capture and preserve images so that others can experience the beauty that cause me to get up early, go out in the cold, crawl in the mud, or wait patiently for the moment.

I love to capture images that show me something of the natural world I couldn’t easily see with my eyes alone – the color of a hummingbird’s eyelid, the shape of its beating wing, or the length of its transparent tongue.

I love to capture the small worlds of lichen on granite, leaves or bark of trees, the color and depth of a flower.

I love to hike or snow shoe a mountain trail to find the landscape around the next bend or just over the ridge to photograph.

My process is to try always to have a camera with me.  I photograph the most ordinary things around my mountain home, wildflowers, a favorite tree, the mountain view. Sometimes I go out with an intention and spend a morning or several mornings photogrphing a single subject. Often, I go out and photograph what ever captures my attention in the morning light. I don’t have to travel far and wide in search of beauty, it’s all around me.

My equipment includes three digital SLRs and several good lenses which I use for the initial capture in digital RAW format. I proccess in Adobe Camera Raw and print with a pigment ink printer. Most of my images are single image captures with a little processing before printing. A few of the images I print are composites of two or more images – more processing. I do collages and montages and experiment with digital painting with an digital tablet, but my first love is photography.

I sell prints, notecards, and bookmarks at summer and fall arts and crafts festivals near my home in Colorado.
